When you stepped out of the doors from the Fairmont Chateau Whistler this morning, a brand new mountain awaited.
This is a new slope in a new country, but it’s still the same 29029.
It’s going to be challenging.
It’s going to test you.
Most importantly, it’s going to be life-changing.
As you climb through the west coast mist, you’re treated to a magical forest experience that only an old-growth coastal forest can deliver.
Through the fog, a carpet of moss spreads out below towering cedars, only interrupted by the odd mellow creek and the ribbon of trail before you.
It’s calm.
It’s tranquil.
It’s peaceful.
It’s the perfect backdrop for a challenge that will check your soul.
Whistler is the longest 29029 mountain. To reach the summit, you’ll cover 3.9 miles, climbing 3900 feet along the way.
No easy feat. Every single ascent will challenge you, and even a single ascent is worth celebrating.
But celebrate later. Right now, it’s time to keep climbing.
Remember when we said 3.9 miles? We meant 6.2 km. 29029’s first international event is in Canada, where measurements are done in kilometers and meters.
While we’re not going to be rebranding to 8848, you will notice Whistler’s trail markings during your climb - all in kilometers, eh.
There’s always a lot of talk of the color red at 29029. Everybody is climbing towards it: the Red Bib, the Red Carpet, and the Red Hat.
But here at 29029 Whistler, there’s another color even more prevalent: green.
The temperate rainforest of Whistler is filled with green. Green moss. Green trees. Green ferns.
And you get to climb right through it, taking it all in, on your quest for the Red Hat.
At the start, you probably wondered if it was going to rain, snow, hail, or be sunny today.
The answer was yes.
It was going to be all of those things.
But that doesn’t stop a community like 29029. You thrive in conditions like these.
Any added challenge to the already-difficult 29,029 vertical feet is just a bonus.
This is what you signed up for. This is what you live for!
Keep climbing. The summit is waiting...
