You probably think what you're feeling at the start is nervous stress.
It’s not.
It’s excitement.
Excitement for what’s to come over the next 36 hours on this mountain.
You don’t have to climb this mountain.
You get to climb this mountain.
13 times. 29,029 vertical feet. It’s time to get moving.
Part of the magic on these slopes comes from the event itself.
Yes, you have a bib number on.
No, this is not a race.
This is an experience.
An event.
A life-changing 36 hours.
And because it’s not a race, you can tap into the will of the community. 250 strong, like-minded participants will you onwards, towards the summit.
Will you seize the moment?
The air’s a bit thinner up here at Snowbasin. Each climb starts at 6,300 feet. By the time you reach the summit, you’ll be over 9,000 feet up in the sky.
And you’ll hit that max elevation again. And again. And again. Until you get to pull on that Red Hat.
Don’t forget to drink. Don’t forget to fuel. Don’t forget to do everything you can to keep yourself moving - one foot in front of the other - all the way to Everest.
She who says she can, and he who says he can’t are both usually right.
You are the story you tell yourself.
29029 is all about rewriting those stories.
It’s a mountain where I can’t gets replaced with I can.
A mountain where doubts don’t survive long.
A mountain where people realize they are capable of so much more than they ever thought possible.
What is your story?
...except for one thing.
29029 can give you almost anything you ask for - anything to make your experience better. Food, advice, motivation, physical therapy, words of encouragement… 29029 offers it all.
But there is one thing 29029 won’t give you until you’re ready, no matter how much you beg for it.
That one thing is the Red Hat.
It cannot be given. It can only be earned.
And that makes it all the more sweeter.
Accomplishing something remarkable is inevitable at 29029 - that can’t be stopped.
But it can be delayed.
Dinnertime thundershowers shut down the gondola. Hunkering down in aid stations on the course, you made the most of it. You may have been cold. You may have been wet. But spirits stayed high.
You can get cold, wet, tired, fatigued… but nothing can stop you as you climb towards your goal. This is only a delay - the Red Hat is still waiting.
