Run the clock out

If there’s still time and you haven’t achieved your goal yet, there’s only one thing to do: keep going.

Run the clock out. Keep climbing until you’re forced to stop. Leave it all out on the mountain.

Give each other strength

When the going gets tough, you can look to others in the 29029 community for support. But there’s also a lesser-known secret you probably learned on the mountain.

When you’re feeling bruised, battered, and defeated - when you’re feeling as if you could not possibly take another step - sometimes the best thing you can do is take the focus off of yourself.

Find somebody who looks like they need a friend to help them through a moment, and be that friend. Look outward for strength. Be generous, give encouragement, and you’ll find yourself invigorated at the same time.

Never negotiate your goals

You came here with a goal. It doesn’t matter whether that goal was to pull on a Red Hat, or to finish a single ascent, what matters is that you have one that will stretch you.

Once you’ve set the goal, do not compromise on it.

People like you don’t negotiate their goals. People like you climb the damn mountain. Again and again and again.

Easy is boring

You didn’t come here because it was easy. Easy is where mediocrity lives, and you are anything but mediocre.

You came here to push yourself. You came here to find new limits. You came here to become a better version of yourself.

The mountain can give you those things if you are willing to put the effort in.

You’ll have to work for it through intense heat. You’ll have to work for it through excruciating grades. You'll have to work for it through deep fatigue.
