Snowbasin #1: Day 2
An Addictive Accomplishment
The mountain isn't the only challenge
If you wanted easy, 29029 isn’t for you. But you showed up. You hiked through yesterday, over loose rocks, gravel, and climbed up a damn mountain.
You dealt with cold. You dealt with rain. You dealt with heat. You dealt with sun.
But you didn’t stop. You didn’t quit. You stayed on the slopes, pushing yourself through anything the mountain and mother nature could throw at you.
If you start an ascent, you will finish
There’s a lesson to be learned from that. An object in motion tends to stay in motion. Getting started is the hardest part. All it takes is one step. It doesn’t matter which phrase you prefer, all that matters is that you take it to heart.
When things are tough, just keep going. Commit to one step. You’ll be surprised at how fast that single step can turn into summiting Everest.
Who do you know on this mountain?
Colin O’Brady mentioned it in his opening speech. How many people do you know here? For most, the answer was a few. For some, the answer was zero.
Does anybody know 40 people here? No hands went up. But that was over 36 hours ago. That was before you all embarked on this journey.
The second you set foot on the slopes, you become part of a tribe - a tribe that thrives with a challenge.
How many people do you know here now?
On a scale of 1 to 10
Many of us spend life in the 5s. Things are good, but not great. We go from one average thing to another.
29029 is about bucking that trend. It’s about experiencing the 10s, because that’s where life gets good.
There’s a catch to experiencing a 10/10 moment in life, though. It doesn’t come without a few 1s, 2s, and 3s along the way.
There’s no doubt that you went through some 1s and 2s to get to the summit in Snowbasin. But those 1s and 2s are why the Red Hat is a 10.
An addictive accomplishment
Once you’ve pushed through 36 hours at 29029, you’ve achieved something amazing. That accomplishment is addictive.
Now that you know what it’s like to grind it out to achieve something big, you’ll be looking for more opportunities to feel that sensation again.
Completing 29029 is addictive in all the right ways, and now that you’re addicted, there’s only one question:
What’s your next Everest?
