"Just turn right."
When Jesse said that at the beginning of the day, it resonated with me. It reminded me of my entrepreneurial experience, in that you have to find a way to keep moving. I was not prepared enough to reach 17 summits, but I was proud of what I was able to achieve. It was such an encouraging environment that I lifted to another level.
I felt accomplished by reaching one summit, then I went and did it again. Came down, turned right, and did it again. I pushed, and I did more than I've ever done before.
I was thrilled to reach Kosciuszko - the first cross on my bib. Over time, my lack of preparation started to surface, I felt so much pain in my knee. And by the time I got to 5 summits, I had to stop. I am proud of getting that far, but I've been thinking about it ever since.
What if I'd done one more? Or tried a night hike? What could I achieve with more focus on the training? Maybe 17 summits isn't possible on the second try, but perhaps the third? I've set new goals for myself, and I want to continue to develop my physical wellbeing.
One thing is for sure, I will be back. It's such a unique event. I don't know if there's anything in the world quite like it. It's 100% worth it, the 29029 team is so professional and well organized. And I know for a fact that I would have never been able to achieve what I did, on my own. The support and community allow you to do more than you ever thought possible. It's an amazing experience, and next time I'll train a little beforehand!
