I am signed up for 29029 in Utah. I've read many of the stories and watched all the videos. It was a shame that we couldn't climb together this year. But, it's made me extra hungry for next year. I can't wait to get to the mountain in Utah and see what I can do. The 29029 community is like no group of people I've ever been a part of. It's incredible that through what we've all dealt with in 2020, the community has grown stronger than ever. I wear the bracelet on my wrist every day, and it says, "Keep Climbing." I see it in every workout, and it's a reminder that I am not doing this alone. There are folks that I talk to daily, that I feel very close to, that I've never physically met! I speak with people like Shawn Doss, I mean, I've never met the guy, but here we are sharing stories and keeping each other motivated from across the country.
When I close my eyes, I can imagine myself standing on the start line at Snowbasin. I can feel the wind, I can hear the chatter of those around me. I see the headlamps of everyone taking on the first hike. I listen to everyone's poles hitting the ground. I can picture myself standing and waiting for the gondola to take me back down the mountain. And as I think of that morning, the 6:00 AM start time, the thoughts of how painful the next 36 hours will be are on my mind. That's a given -- It's not going to be easy, but none of us would have signed up for it if it was.
I look forward to the sights, the sounds, and the smells.
I can picture it so clearly. It's so vivid, and having to wait a year will make the whole experience even more meaningful. The group that participated in the 29029 Virtual Utah event became so close - it's going to be like a family reunion when we all get together in August 2021.
My goal has gone from, I want to finish this, to, how can I help somebody else get what I've gotten out of this community. This community has taken me to a level that I didn't think was possible for myself. And now, I know the sky's the limit.
