Whether you continued through the night or started before dawn, it's the same challenge, yet a new day. The questions of how you'll possibly move forward come more frequently and are more persistent. The choice to sleep, rest or continue was made and now Day 2 is upon us.
The morning light represented a new beginning. A unique opportunity to show what we were made of. Whatever transpired in the last 24 hours, the mountain doesn’t care. There’s still magic to be made.
The 29029 community lends itself to positivity; it’s also a community that prides itself on supporting and lifting others.
Anonymous messages left for someone else gives rise to motivation and the inspiration to keep moving forward.
Each Summit is a win. It shows that you had the courage, the determination, and the grit to keep going when you had the opportunity to stop. Burning the 29029 logo into The Ascent Board, smelling the wood-burning and watching the smoke drift off is a moment to be celebrated.
Remember the smell.
Remember the smoke.
These are symbols of your achievement and memories you’ll have for the rest of your life.
The Red Bib is a symbol to the community that you didn't give in to the pain, it's a symbol to yourself that you did more than you believed possible.
The last hike is a victory lap. For some, it comes with a touch of sadness that the challenge is almost over. For others wearing The Red Bib is a moment they've visualized for months. Either way, it is earned, never given.
The color red is so meaningful at 29029. There's no easy way to get to red.
Donning The Red Bib is so very meaningful, but as a new tradition is born, The Red Hat becomes the ultimate signifier, that 29,029 feet were covered, in 36 hours, on a private mountain, with 225 like-minded people.
Everyone looks good in red.
From day one, 29029 has been a challenge that is you versus you. Within that, you share the mountain with athletes of all levels. You are going through the same challenges.
29029 provides every participant with an opportunity to walk away, feeling pride in themselves.
There are two acceptable outcomes at 29029. You achieve your goal, or you walk away, giving everything you had.
Whatever the outcome, the spirit of human resilience is on full display.
You were not willing to settle.
You were looking to get the most out of yourself.
You did more than that you thought you were capable of.
You pushed your boundaries and you leaned into discomfort.
For that you should be perpetually proud.
We stood together, 35 hours ago, with unspoken goals, a sense of uncertainty, and an anticipation of what was to come. So much has transpired since and collectively, the stories of human achievement are endless.
If we could bottle the feelings that are expressed on the top of the mountain, in the final hour, it would be the most potent elixir ever created.
The clock kept ticking, and you kept moving, right to the final bell.
