There’s always a buzz at the start line of 29029. It starts around 4:30 am, when athletes roll into the lodge for breakfast. Most would call it a nervous energy, but it’s actually excitement.
Excitement for what’s about to come.
Excitement for an attempt at conquering 29,029 vertical feet.
Excitement over tackling this monumental goal together, as a community.
The mountain gifted a monumental sunrise on Day 1.
As the first of 250 started to reach the summit for the first time, the sun cast a golden glow across the trail - a golden glow for what will turn into a golden achievement.
But the achievement comes later. There wasn’t time for more than a brief delay to take in the scenery. After all, the clock was still ticking.
If you were hanging out around the watercooler at your office and told a colleague you were going to climb a mountain 13 times, they’d probably tell you that you’re crazy. They’d ask you why you’re doing it - but they wouldn’t understand the real answer.
A fellow 29029 participant will ask you why you’re doing it too, except they understand the context because they’re tackling the same challenge as you. They want to know your deepest fears, your deepest anxieties, what makes you tick, and how you’re hoping to grow.
This is the 29029 community, and as soon as you stepped foot onto the slopes of Snowbasin, you became part of something bigger than yourself.
Aditi thought she couldn’t climb more than a thousand feet when she signed up for 29029.
She quietly chipped away on the mountain, and quickly surpassed 1000 feet.
As the event went on and the brands on the board stacked up, Aditi felt comfortable sharing why she was at 29029.
She wanted to become 1% more confident in herself. Before the event had even ended, she’d accomplished that goal many times over.
Aditi became part of the 29029 community and quickly learned that this group of people help stretch you far beyond what you thought was possible.
Dan needed surgery to fix his ankle. In fact, he had surgery booked only 10 days after 29029. His leg was in a boot, but he wasn’t going to let that stop him from being a part of 29029.
As if hiking up a mountain wasn’t enough, he was going to do it with a leg in a boot.
He emptied his tank on the mountain, inspiring the entire 29029 community in the process.
Kamille was a participant in 29029 in 2021. This year, she was back on the slopes, but in a different capacity. She was there to cheer you on.
Kamille understood the power of this community, and she wanted to contribute in her own small way. Watching others achieve something amazing is addictive, and Kamille was there, at the top of the mountain from the very beginning, cheering you on.
And on the final ascents? She was there again, still cheering. Still embodying the spirit of the 29029 community.
There is no word to describe your achievement on the mountain. Whether you pulled on a Red Hat, or emptied your tank on the mountain trying, you achieved something remarkable.
From up here, you’re on top of the world.
